Religion
and Jesus
Karl Barth (pronounced “Bart)
is one of the few theologians ever honored by having his picture on
the cover of Time Magazine. Once he was lecturing a group of
students at Princeton when one student asked the German theologian,
“Sir, don't you think that God has revealed himself in other
religions and not only in Christianity?" Barth's answer stunned the
crowd. With a modest thunder he answered, "No, God has not revealed
himself in any religion, including Christianity. He has revealed
himself in his Son.” Other religions do not promote the Son of God;
Christianity helps people see Jesus in us, but it was Jesus who
revealed God to the world through His work and His words. We cannot
help the world see God without teaching the world about Jesus.
Jesus said in John 14:9-11 “Anyone who has seen me has seen the
Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Don't you believe
that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I
say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in
me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the
Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence
of the miracles themselves.” I am thankful to begin my
ministry with Central Church of Christ today; Wilsie and I thank the
LORD for bringing us safely to you. We have loved you even before
our arrival, and we thank you for your prayers and encouragement.
Now let’s all focus on the real reason we are here – His name is
JESUS CHRIST. Let’s tell those around us what the Savior has done
for us.
Grace and Peace,
