James Slack
|
Background:
James
was raised in Lufkin. He graduated from the
University of Texas-Austin in 1968 with a BS
in vertebrate zoology (pre-med). He served
our country as an Army officer from
1969-1972 and is a Vietnam veteran. James met Janie on a blind date
while in college and they married in 1969.
Following his discharge from the Army, they
lived in Marshall, Texas. While in Marshall, they were invited to become
engaged in a Bible study, and six months later they
were both baptized at 2:00 a.m. one morning
in 1974. They have been very active in the
Lord’s work since that time.
Career:
James has been a science
teacher, pharmaceutical salesman, a business
development manager and currently is
vice-president and lender at First Bank &
Trust in Lufkin. He has been in banking for
over 20 years. He is also a member and past
president of the Lufkin Rotary Club and
has served on the boards of Woodland Heights
Medical Center and the Blood Center of East
Texas, as well as numerous other civic organizations in the community. He is also treasurer of the Saturday
Bass Anglers. James has taught Jr. High thru
adult classes; he was a Deacon of Worship at Central for 20 years, then
Deacon of the Seniors ministry. He was selected as an
Elder in March 2004.
Family:
James and Janie have three daughters,
all of whom are active Christians. The eldest,
Shannon, with her husband and three children
live in Liberty Hill. Jessica, along with her husband and daughter, live
in Littleton, CO. Shannon and Jessica graduated from the
University of Texas-Austin. Cameron
graduated from Abilene Christian University
and works as a congressional aide in Austin. She plans to marry in
May of 2008.
Hobbies:
Hunting and Fishing
Vision for Central?
To be the hands of God on earth and
to bring Him glory. To teach a balance
between God’s love for us and his hatred of
sin, including the consequences. Small
groups becoming the key to a more community
focused mission. |
