Praise

8/25/2019

The past decade has fostered an incredible movement within the Christian Music Industry. Countless high quality songs with thoughtful and even theologically inspired lyrics have been written and led by just as many amazing worship leaders. Hillsong is one of these artists that began in a small church in Australia and now leads millions around the world in worship every day. Hillsong Worship is one of my favorite groups of worship leaders that have just recently recorded a beautiful worship song: King of Kings. This song dives into the story of how God redeemed His people by coming to a us with “mercy in His eyes” while we were “In the darkness… waiting.” He came “To fulfill the law and prophets” and then my favorite line “From a throne of endless glory to a cradle in the dirt.” The Chorus leads us into worship as we “Praise the Father, Praise the Son, Praise the Spirit Three in One.” Find the lyrics to this song online while you listen to it, or find a You Tube video with the lyrics playing and enjoy an intimate time of worship with your family today!

“I’ve carried a burden for too long on my own, I wasn’t created to bear it alone. I hear Your invitation to let it all go. I see it now, I’m laying it down. And I know that I need you.”

My assumption is that the man Kari Jobe married must be an absolutely incredible worship leader and man of God if he can keep up with her. This assumption was proven correct when I began to listen Cody Carnes worship songs. You need to listen to a few if you haven’t. One of my favorites is his song “Run to the Father”. Read the quote at the beginning again. This is how he starts the song off and then as he moves into the chorus he passionately declares how he is pursuing God. Running after Him. Falling into God’s grace. He’s not hiding any longer. He’s not waiting. Cody desires for God to change his heart and help him understand how incredible God’s love is. Listen to his song when you get home today and join him in running to the Father!

God's Love

Chris Tomlin simply won’t stop… For more than a decade he has been creating and leading wonderful songs of worship and praise. He coordinates with a variety of great musicians, poets, and speakers to create deep and profound yet simple and majestic songs that declare God’s glory and praise. One of my current favorites is “Nobody Loves Me Like You.”

This song explores, well, the title gives it away. The way God loves us is immeasurably greater than the love we receive from anyone or anything else and this truth should lead us to worshipping the Creator of the universe. God declares this love through so many things and Chris Tomlin focuses on the truth found in Psalm 19. That the beauty of creation around us declares the glory of God and also helps us understand the profound way God loves us. Growing up in Colorado I can intimately relate to this understanding as I learned about God through time spent in the mountains. Take time discussing this song and Psalm 19 with your family today and share how God personally shares the truth of His love with you.

Take a chance to listen to this song and discuss the lyrics with someone close to you. Use Romans 8:26-27 alongside this conversation and share the way that the Holy Spirit has spoken truth to and through you in order to bring healing to yours and others insecurities.

For King and Country has put out a lot incredible songs since their first album in 2012. They share deep truths about God and the Christian lifestyle through unique and upbeat songs. One of their newer songs, “God Only Knows,” is a perfect example of this as they weave challenging and thoughtful lyrics through an engaging beat and thought provoking piano.

This song leads the listener to consider the secrets and insecurities we hold deep within ourselves and work incredibly hard to avoid letting anyone see. The mask we put on and the way it drastically affects our lifestyle and the depth of relationships we’re able to develop while not sharing who we truly are with those around us. However, the Chorus immediately dives into the scriptural truth that God knows us. Not only does He know us but He loves us throughout our pain and brokenness. He forgives our sinful thoughts and actions, He brings our secrets to light and pours out grace and strength to repent and change, and covers over the weaknesses we perceive in ourselves with joy and acceptance.
